I have an issue with my AC unit, every time I clean out the screen for the seawater pump it fails to circulate water one back together. It's a 2003 12K BTU AC model and the pump is only 3' from the thru hull. I've checked for air leaks but can't find any.

Anyone else encountered a similar issue

Although they are self-priming pumps, sometimes they don't. Try cracking open the filter to allow the water to fill it or if that doesn't work, fill the feed line with water to prime it.

I had to disconnect the hose from the filter to the pump and pour water in it and reconnect then open seacock. O guess pump needs help priming.

The March pumps used in marine AC installs are NOT self priming. They will air lock with very little air in the system. You need to bleed the air out behind the pump. Install a bleeder value (as March recommends), or crack the hose-clamps and let the air out.

Bleeder valve teed in just before a/c unit and connected to condensation line that empties into shower sump. No longer need condensation line anymore anyway because I now use a Venturi connected inline to the a/c discharge at the seacock just above water line to keep the condensation pan sucked dry.
Btw... Little giant is the best pump to get! Check on line for best prices... A good source to look at is a saltwater aquarium supplier. One of my little giants is going over 12 years now and will still suck the chrome off a Buick!
Before I got turned on the little giant I had experience with the pumps from marsh and the red pumps that mermaid marine like push and all lasted less then a year and that's a fact!!!

Thanks All. Appricate the great responses. Headed to the boat tomorrow afternoon. In Charleston we need the dehumidifier all year long.

Most A/C systems use magnetic drive centrifugal pumps which are not self priming. To operate correctly they must be mounted below the waterline, or a y valve/bleeder must be installed. The advantage to these pumps is that they can run dry w/o damaging the pump or impeller.

Robert, can you provide buying info of the venturi you use? Thanks.
