I have a 35lb Mantus my 1984 Catalina tall
rig. We set it in Coecles Harbor in 15 feet with 30 feet 5/16 chain spliced to 3/4" braided nylon and had supper. Wind picked up to 35-45 knots. Three boats dragged around us but
we sat solid and secure for the night.

Any pictures? Need to see how well it fits your roller.

Another mantus fan here. We put a 25 lb mantus on our seaward 25 this season. It sets very quickly, held through thunderstorms and windy nights without budging. It also set and held in weedy areas where out previous anchor would never have set in the first place. The mantus just seemed to dig under them.

I'm attaching a couple of pics in case this helps with the bow roller questions. The 25 lb anchor just fits ours.

I ended up purchasing a Rocna 15 and was very happy with it this season. My wife and I were giddy each time we let down the anchor and felt it dig in instantly! Fortunately we never had the occasion to test it in heavy winds but I slept well during some 25 knot nights.

. . .
I bought a 35 pound Mantus this spring. It sets and holds flawlessly in our lake mud. The wind typically blows and sometimes howls from every direction over a 48 hour period, yet the Mantus holds on, presumably resetting itself. My old danforth would not. When I'm done retrieving the 35 pound Mantus anchor (with no electric windless) I return to the helm exhausted, out of breath. But that's not really the anchor's fault.

CaptainN, Would you happen to have a photo of you bow roller setup? I bought a 35lb Mantus for our C30 but have yet install it ( boat is in overhaul). It sure looks big in the box. I have a SR with BS so our setups should be a bit similar.

Thanks,

I forget the seasons sometimes. Still in the 80s here.

It looks pretty big hanging out there.

We keep our fortress in the locker. On our last boat we hung the anchor from the bow pulpit when not in use and it looked pretty good, I may have to give it a try with the Mantus. It is good to know it fits on the sprint under the furler.

Oh, and this month Mantus is giving a discount over on Cruisersforum.com. Something like 10% and free shipping.

We switched from a Fortress to a Mantus for our main anchor this year. The differences we noticed:

The Fortress dragged on us a couple of times with 180 degree wind shifts. The Mantus has not.

The Fortress didn't like weeds. If it was able to set in a weedy area, you couldn't be sure that it would stay that way. The Mantus didn't seem to care whether weeds were there or not. It just dug under them.

The Fortress was way easier to handle. My back liked it better, but I sleep better with the Mantus.
