Maine, For your diligent work on helping all us incompetent Spring polishers out there get our boats looking almost as good as yours (will never happen), I nominate you for this forum's sailor of the year. Phil, this thread disappeared very quickly. Can you have it stay around longer? At least the President of Makita could fly you to Japan, rent six hot geisha chicks in skimpy clothing, and tell them to have their way with you. Thanks guy for your dedication to the task and your clear writing skills from several now more knowledgeable Canadian boat polishers, Pete

I'll second that

Not only his polishing and buffing technique, but also his maintenance and upkeep threads and his timely advice and general willingness to help others less knowledgeable than himself. His unselfish attitude and his spot on advice administered in a thoughtful manner. From me to you, Maine Sail, I thank you. Keep it up, Ctskip

Wow..

Wow thanks guys! I participate here because I know everyone has the ability in them to DIY and sometimes just a little push is all that's needed. I'm glad you guys appreciate my detail (read: anal retentive) and got something out of it. Let's not forget though that we all learn here. I learn lots here and feel I learn something new every time I visit.. This is a great and polite site, unlike some others (SA or CSBB) and has a good crew of characters who all deserve credit! So here's to EVERYONE on SBO for making this place so friendly and cordial and for offering up some great advice!

I would like

to see how he fairs in the Sails Call Lounge before I commit... or have him committed as the case may be. He is "A1" over here... and one dedicated dude. Thanks for all your help MaineSail. And as Ctskip would say. "Keep it up"!

From Mainesail we have learned many very useful

boat keeping lessons. He has shown us how a tired old boat can shine again. Not just on the surface where it shows but down in the bowels where it really matters but doesn't get seen by the casual guest. His boats not only take him and his friends sailing those same boats also bring him back. He has demonstrated that boat care doesn't take time away from sailing it just takes time away from the TV. We need more members from his school of boat keeping.

Maine's The Man! Also...

Mainsail has truely contributed to this forum and deserves special recognition! Others that come to mind that IMHO also deserve recognition are: Ross from Perryville George of Traverse City, Phil with Nice & Easy, (good devil's advocate, starts good threads), and Crazy Dave Condon (past contributions but newly reunited) BrianW

forum sailor of the year????

I certainly appreciate the contributions by MaineSail and all the others....however...arbitrarily designating someone as "forum sailor of the year" seems pretentious and biased against other worthy participants. If this forum wants to go down the awards and recognition path then do it right, or not at all. Get together as a committee and create a format for evaluating the various forum member's contributions to the group as a whole, within the parameters of the appropriate award. You can take nominations or simply sift through all the posts for the past year. Then you can come up with a final list of nominees to be submitted to the forum's general population for a final vote. Does anyone want to do that?? Probably not.... Quite frankly, I'm not in favor of annointing anyone as "sailor of the year". Let's give thanks and credit where due and hope that is enough recognition for anyone. I'm much more in favor of members' simply saying thanks to each other once in a while. Honoring one person... in some weird way... often creates resentment elsewhere. Once you start handing out awards there can become a competition for them...even for low key things like this.... so lets honor everyone. Post "atta boys" or send e-mails to those special contributors who've influenced you most instead of putting one person on a pedestal. Oh, by the way, thanks again, MaineSail, for your contributions this year.

Oh no, not another committee!!!

I think it was sort of meant as a fun award Joe. Not too serious. I agree with the prvious posts that MS has been an invaluable resource here but he only gets my vote for 2007 when he polished my boat. To get my 2008 nod, he needs to varnish my interior! ;-) Keep up the good work and remember our first race is 5/28. You bring the beer!

Joe...

I can't believe I didn't get that award. I nominate myself (and second the motion) for Boodini of the year! Tim... Are you saying your varnishing is still not done? Get back to work. I saw your hauler in North Windham today... he says he needs to pull you 2 weeks early!

Ross, is it indisputably or is it undisputably?

Besides that is it SBO or SOB? As we get older does life continue to get more demanding?:) r.w.landau

the golden wax award goes to......

Maine Sail. ;D I have not seen many, in fact I have not seen any other sites with the amount of detail and research that Rodd puts into any project he takes on and totally free !! Either anchor tests or pulling on electrical connections or going to the nth detail on detailing your topsides. Has certainly given me valuable info and saved me tons of time in researching just how to do various projects. So, I thank you sir for your dedication to the sport. *5 *5 *5 ;D
