forum sailor of the year????
I certainly appreciate the contributions by MaineSail and all the others....however...arbitrarily designating someone as "forum sailor of the year" seems pretentious and biased against other worthy participants. If this forum wants to go down the awards and recognition path then do it right, or not at all. Get together as a committee and create a format for evaluating the various forum member's contributions to the group as a whole, within the parameters of the appropriate award. You can take nominations or simply sift through all the posts for the past year. Then you can come up with a final list of nominees to be submitted to the forum's general population for a final vote. Does anyone want to do that?? Probably not.... Quite frankly, I'm not in favor of annointing anyone as "sailor of the year". Let's give thanks and credit where due and hope that is enough recognition for anyone. I'm much more in favor of members' simply saying thanks to each other once in a while. Honoring one person... in some weird way... often creates resentment elsewhere. Once you start handing out awards there can become a competition for them...even for low key things like this.... so lets honor everyone. Post "atta boys" or send e-mails to those special contributors who've influenced you most instead of putting one person on a pedestal.Oh, by the way, thanks again, MaineSail, for your contributions this year.
