main sheet purchase???

Hi,I have a 1980 Catalina 30 that I am thinking of upgrading the main sheet blocks and purchase. Presently, the old system is an 8:1 purchase. I am thinking of installing a fine and course purchase main sheeting system. My course system would be a 4:1 and used for down wind. I will not need the pulling power in this mode plus there will not be all the sheet length required. My fine adjustment system would be either a 4:1 or 5:1 system at the tail end of the course system. Therfore, I will have a 16:1 or 20:1 adjustment with plenty of power over the stock 8:1 setup.My question is has anyone ever tried this setup on a 30????I have two main goals: 1) increase my purchase for upwind sailing...2) Reduce all the sheet length going out to the boom when sailing down wind.Thanks for your input.Paul

Thanks for the responses.I am thinking in terms of making it easier for my crew to sheet in the main without using the winch on each tack. I am/was also concerned about the distance for the fine adjust betweeen traveler and boom. Is it enough length?? The sliding travler is a new idea for me but most likely well out of my budget. I figured I could play with the fine adjustment design with the purchase of a few double blocks.Paul
