Hi, I have a 1980 Catalina 30 that I am thinking of upgrading the main sheet blocks and purchase. Presently, the old system is an 8:1 purchase. I am thinking of installing a fine and course purchase main sheeting system. My course system would be a 4:1 and used for down wind. I will not need the pulling power in this mode plus there will not be all the sheet length required. My fine adjustment system would be either a 4:1 or 5:1 system at the tail end of the course system. Therfore, I will have a 16:1 or 20:1 adjustment with plenty of power over the stock 8:1 setup. My question is has anyone ever tried this setup on a 30???? I have two main goals: 1) increase my purchase for upwind sailing...2) Reduce all the sheet length going out to the boom when sailing down wind. Thanks for your input. Paul

Thanks for the responses. I am thinking in terms of making it easier for my crew to sheet in the main without using the winch on each tack. I am/was also concerned about the distance for the fine adjust betweeen traveler and boom. Is it enough length?? The sliding travler is a new idea for me but most likely well out of my budget. I figured I could play with the fine adjustment design with the purchase of a few double blocks. Paul
