My Catalina 28 I just bought has a problem with the halyard for the main sale and the line to the Dutchman system. The boom line is completely seized and the main halyard is very hard to pull up and down. Has anyone had this problem and a fix?
I just bought my Catalina 28 last year and at the end of the season. It was nearly impossible to raise the main all the way. I had the mast dropped to check things at the top. The sheaves were completely shot. They are plastic with metal sleeves in the center. The plastic was all chipped and cracked and the metal center was gone. The hole in the center (now only plastic) was worn oblong so when the halyard got some sail weight on it it stopped turning and I was left trying to move the line around a beat up, non turning sheave. I replaced 3 of them with the plastic ones from Catalina Direct and the one for the main with the metal one with bearings. This solved my problem.

John, I think it would be doable.Rawcool
Is this replacement something that could be done from the bosan chair or does the mast have to come down?
