The current halyard on Temptation II, C-27 (5110) is a rope to steel cable hybrid. (not spliced, but mechanically joined with shackles.) Needless to say, this arrangement gets hung up as the connection passes the side shrouds. I want to replce this with an all rope halyard. Is the sheave at the top of the mast designed to accept either the cable or a rope halyard? What diameter is recommended? Thanks

Halyard sheave

Hello Ron, The halyard sheave is probably worn a bit from using the wire halyard. If it is, then an all rope halyard may wear a bit faster as it passes over the groove in the sheave. A physical inspection is necessary to determine if it has rough edges and should be replaced. The masthead sheaves are usually easy to replace but again, go aloft and do an inspection before You make any hardware purchases. I changed out my wire-to-rope main halyard and had to replace the sheave as it did have a deep groove worn into the aluminum sheave. Fair Winds, Dave
