Awesome boat, I love Oday's! But it makes me think of this cartoon, not exactly conducive to easy trailerability.

I would not like to hang the outboard from the ground but all looks good in the water.

Looks like as much windage as a 26 X or M.

Hello,

Last year I started looking for bigger sailboat,,I'm almost growing out of my Mac22 which I have tricked out to my hearts content. I looked into some Hunter 260 and then I jumped on a Mac26 X that I got a good deal on. It trailered from Tampa to Miami without a problem. My setup at the marina was quick and I was able to get a second spot at the yard to keep her while I sell the Mac22. I took the 26 out a couple of times but the performance difference was noticeable so I sold it. I never got used to the tenderness due to the water ballast. Sometimes when I'm cramped inside my 22 I wonder if I made the right decision; the inside of the 26 was roomy like my RV. I'm thinking of upgrading to a Mac25 someday which should be the same feel as the 22. But for certain the next sailboat will be a Mac,, there is nothing wrong with them as long as you understand their limitations as with any vessel. BTW my Mac22 is not for sale. :)

Get more bang for the bucks than any other boat in the 25’ range. I picked up a very lightly used 87 M25 3 years ago for $4500. It came with a good trailer, decent sails with a North 150 on a roller system and a 7.5 Honda 4 cycle. I have made some changes that have made her very competitive. A new rudder, traveler and reducing the mast rake to 2 deg. made the most improvement. I have also added a boom vang , two larger winches and main reefing system all for around $750, gotta love eBay . I did make my own rudder but that’s another story.
This year I will bring the main halyard back to the cockpit along with longer tracks for the head sails. Where else can you put together a boat with this kind of portability and performance for the $$$$ invested. Its great fun sailing right past supposedly better boats especially in light air.

I can only speak from my four years of experience sailing my 1991 26S "Greg-Gary-Us". I have put her through some significant stress sailing her in Saginaw Bay off Lake Huron without her letting me down. I was particularly impressed with sailing in the East and West Arms of Grand Traverse Bay out of Elk Rapids last September. Sailing out and around Mission Point would take us into Lake Michigan. We would typically start out in 2 to 4 waves, clear blue skies and 10 knots of northwesterly. This would increase to 4 to 6 footers and then long swells of 6 to 8 with an increase in wind of only 5 knots. While the ride was roller coaster like she behaved admirably. While I am looking for a significantly larger cruiser I will never give up my Mac. Looking forward to two weeks of gunkholing in the North Channel this July/August which should be a little more laid back adventure. Just us, the loons and pink granite escarpments.

Wow what a review!
Here we are 20 + years later and there still making them that way!
I am particularly glad that Macgregors (immigrant staff ) didn't and still doesn't use a chopper gun. If it isin't broke,.....
I think its kind of odd that the reviewer didn't actually go out on the boat they were reviewing. Possably didn't want to be seen on "one of those trailer sailors."
My 26D has allot of things going for it that this reviewer just got wrong!
Wow, how much things have changed since the late 80's!

Yea it's a bit harsh.

You are right. Fiberglass boat production techniques have improved in most makes over the years.
