My M-18 runs fine, not heat issue but max rpm is an indicated 2450. I get 5.5 knots at 2250. Near by owner of M-18 tells me his is the same. Specification says 3200 no load. What are other M-18 owners experience? Techometer was recently changed due to hr. meter failure, exhaust was new last season. Is 2400 - 2500 normal?

I can't say what normal is

I have heard that these tac's are off. Mine for example reads 3600 rpm at wot. It is not likely that is correct. I run my throttle at about 80% and I move at about 5.7 knots {GPS}. I am happy with that and consider that normal. The m-18 would seem to be a loud but good motor for the Cat 27. jack

Tach Issues

I too have an M-18 on my 30 Catalina and do not trust the readings on my rpm gauge. As such, I was advised my a local mechanic that there is a way to adjust for accuracy. I have yet to research this; however, check the Torrensen (sp) marine website as they would have the answer. Bob
