Our new (to us) 1985 Catalina is missing the lower lifeline for the starboard gate. Anyone know where I can find just that piece, instead of a complete set of lifelines?

Thanks!

OS,

I would take the opp. side or the lower lifeline to a rigging company. Or, I would simply take an eye to eye measurement. You might have a turnbuckle for taking-up any slack when installed or, just a simple line. An overall dimension between connection points adding the diameter of a full pin should do it plus adding 1" for slack. If having more questions, just PM me pal.

And, welcome aboard.

ps: I only use circular cotter pins & I only use 316 stainless, never 304 SS.

Hey CR,
I've got circular cotter pins too, but the surveyor told me when I bought the boat to change them out to standard ones. Can't imagine why, I would think they would be more dangerous to snag or cut something. Needless to say I never changed them.

JO,

Straight cotter pins are stronger in application but, I haven't had problems with my lowers & upper shrouds. For fore & aft stays, I use the straight type, as I also have a bowsprit & titanium 20 bobstay. I guess it's more about personal choice.

We do get severe afternoon thunderstorms in summer on Florida's "Left" coast & some sever storms can get up to 50 MPH with waterspouts. If so, I'm motoring under bare pole. If seeing something coming towards me & my first thought is to douse sail. I douse the sail/s, Bare stick, no problems. I no longer wait to decide, as your first thought is the way to go. You can always shake out the sails if nothing develops.

You just wanna be sure NOT to get caught in the, "SHIZZ."
