Thanks for the photos. A quick measurement and it appears the bow eye is lower, below the step off in the interior liner.

Update on the O'Day 19. Starboard side jib tracks had been leaking. Had to recore a small section at the tracks. Easy job except it was upside down and had to deal with some dripping epoxy.
Removed all the deck hardware and will rebed.
Got a good look at the swing keel and hinge. It looks like new. I don't think the boat spent much time in the water.
Still need to replace the hose between the scupper and drain, but that will have to wait for spring. It is really cold right now.

Besides that it ski season.

Sounds like I have the same boat with many of same issues. Replacing that hose between scupper and drain was tricky because had to do it with one hand thru that 4"?? ( maybe it was a bit bigger) access hole while shining a light in to see what you were doing. But once i mastered a few weird body positions lying on side in cockpit it wasn't too bad. Once i cut out old hose and measured OD of the fiberglass points that hose slips over, i went to Lowes and bought a length of flexible hose, and some hose clamps it was done and felt very good. No more constant leak into hull. Good luck! Bill

I'm still a couple months of winter away from tackling that project. I may get my friends 8 year old to help out with his little extremities.

Well it's been a long cold winter and not much got done on the boat until the last week.
Made new shelves for the cabin, the old ones were rotted.
Re-bedded the deck hardware.
Replaced the drain hose from the cockpit scupper, not as bad as I thought it was going to be.
A new bow eye is in the mail and should arrive tomorrow, that could be fun to replace.
The original burnt orange cushions cleaned up real nice. If I ever sell the boat that will be a huge selling point!!
Wired lights on the trailer, applied for a new title, we'll see about that.
Will stand the mast as soon as the wind stops blowing and check all the rigging.

If a guy was to consider new sails what is a decent resource? I don't want to invest much on this project.

All I need now is for the two feet of ice to melt off and it's good to go.

My O'Day 19 is the MK2 (shorter mast similar to the O'Day 192). Rudy confirmed the two versions and that the price for the sails would be about the same.

That's spendy, more then I have in the boat just for a new head sail.

I dug around a little and found a place called Precision Sails, 406 for a head sail and 450 for a main. D&R is mighty proud of their stuff.

Actually, what Rudy at D&R sells are OEM level sails from Neil Pryde, so his prices are less than what a typical sail at a local loft would cost. However, Intensity Sails has better prices than D&R for Day Sailer sails...... but I'm not sure if they offer sails for the 19. Check their web-site or they often have sails (new) listed on eBay.

Just remember that there are TWO mast sizes for the O'Day 19.
The tall mast specs are usually the only ones published.

And because you have a sailboat, you won't be spending hundreds of dollars for fuel.

I bought new sails for my Capri 22 last year - spent more for the sails than the boat originally cost. The difference is like night and day in handling and performance over the original 25 year old sails.

Measure twice, order once. If, and it's a big if, I actually order new sails.

Got the bow eye replaced yesterday, so far one of the easier projects.

Nothing to do now but get sheets and halyards and wait for a melt.

Finally got the boat in the water the other day. No doubt the sails need work but it was fun all the same. I used a small electric trolling motor but barely needed it. Even with the blown out old sails it scooted along and pointed reasonably well.
Right now I'm working with a sailmaker in Austin TX who will cut down a used main from a South Coast 21 and make me a budget "new" main.
Found out I need to make an extension for the trailer because the bow eye hangs up on the roller going in and coming out, it needs to be deeper. Other than that it's a great little day sailer.

Update for fall 2014.

I sent the sail to bartlett in Austin and he said the sail was just fine, not blown out at all. He released the bolt rope, added slugs and built new battens. Sailed great with the sail reworked. All the work paid off and the boat works great.

However, another boat has caught my eye and I sold it last week to a great guy in TX who will have lots of fun with it. He has some rigging questions so
I will direct him to this site. Hopefully he will join.

Thanks for all the help in the past, Bill.
