Any suggestions, is this a problem, common problem or should I disregard.

Are you saying that the mast is stepped on the cabin top(deck-stepped)? And that the coach roof is warped? If yes then the mast support under the cabin sole might be rotten. You should have the boat surveyed, best way to find those hidden problems.

You probably should have posted this under "Ask All Sailors" instead of "Ask A Hunter Owner". Not many of us Hunter owners know much about Pearsons.

I purchased a 1971 P33 two years ago, and it had a similar problem. The boat was fully surveyed before purchase and recommendations from the surveyor included further investigation into the cause. After stepping the mast, doing a full inspection of the cabin top under the mast-step, and the bottom of the compression post (in the bilge) it became evident that the compression was partially due to design. No rot found in the compression post. The compression post is set slightly to port, allowing enough room for the door to the head. Over years of over-torquing the shrouds, the starbord side became depressed. To fix, he cut access to the cabin liner, jacked up the cabin top and inserted a stainess steel plate that span the void. Reglassed and tuned the shroulds to proper tensions. We race the boat on a regular basis and have no recurrance of the problem.
