I have a Catalina 27 std rig dinette layout With a forward kitchen. I'm wondering if any one has used the space in floor under the dinette table. I'm eyeing it a a place to stow an anchor chain and rode. I got a 10kg rocna anchor, a dozen ft of chain and 200 ft of 1/2 in rode. This overwelms the rope Hawes pipe, and this isn't a true chain locker its open to the V birth. I'd like to herat if any one has opened this space up.

Thanks John

There are a few spots I'm wondering about. That's one of them. I have the exact same layout. It's odd to me that there are spaces like that that are entirely enclosed. I'm curious to see if anyone has done this.

Well Faris I guess one of us has to get curious with a saw. I'm wondering how to cover it. I'm thinking something like a starboard sheet, need to think how to lip this, build a recess to lay thing board in. Given the scope of this project I suspect this will be something for next winter's layup.

I've thought that the way to do this would be to drill a hole into the area from within the compartment under one of the dinette seats, then use a stiff wire to sort of feel around the area to get a sense of what is there. Could be just filled with foam, and I'd rather find this out with a 1/4" drill bit than a saw.

John,

my 1980 C27 had what appears to be a factory installed bladder water-tank underneath the dinette table. I say that because the plumbing seemed to match what I know came from the factory elsewhere. I ripped out all plumbing and removed the bladder tank. there is nothing below the dinette space and it is easily accessible through the aft locker space.
