Bob, to inspect the turnbuckle
You must first remove the sail. Then lift the grey foil section of the furler while removing the horizontal pin half way up the black drum section. Then allow the foil to drop down on the turn buckle and slide the black upper drum portion up the grey foil. The turnbuckle should be exposed. I don't know how much furler experience you have so, here is a what to do and not do when furling.DO: 1. head into the wind.2. release the jib sheet so there is some lufting. 3. Pull the furler line to furl the sail. Pull it while you watch the sail furl. You want tight secure wraps. If the sail is lufting too much, the wraps will be uneven and loose. There is a balance between lufting and trimmed that the sail will furl nicely and still not be hard to pull in.Don't do's:1. Try to furl the sail while it is trimmed tight. 2. Force anything! If you force things you could untwist the forestay. The furler line will give some resistance but you should not have to winch it.One thing that may cause a problem is if your forestay is not tight enough. The sag in the foil makes it hard to start furling. One main note: if you take the horizontal pin out of the black section of the furler to inspect the turnbuckle, IT MUST BE PUT BACK IN! That pin keep the foil from resting on the turnbuckle. If it is not in, the foil will turn the turnbuckle and could possibly turn it all the way out, releasing the forestay and causing a demasting.Hope this explaination helpedr.w.landau
