Looking for advice on how to best replace the hatch rails on my 1984 ODay 222. Are there any available that would work? Thought I would ask before creating my own. Jim

Do you have a pic of what you are referring to? Hatch rails could mean a number of different things

If the runner has worn down over the years, you may end up with a horrible screech whenever you open/close the hatch

Thank you to those who responded regarding my search for hatch runners. I understand teak runners or StarBoard material could be used. Opinions on which is best? Also, the current runners’ hardware is crumbling. Once removed, could I epoxy the new runners in place? Thank you for your input! Jim

Typically these were screwed to the deck. Drill pilot hole in runner and into (but not through) deck, counterbore the holes so the screw heads don't show, plug with teak plugs.

I have used butyl tape for many bedding applications. Adhesive/sealant like 3M 4200 works well. Put some in the pilot holes and on the screw threads, as well as on the teak.

Someone here replaced their toe rails which are installed in the same manner. After properly removing the first few screws, they cut into the toe rail and screws for a much faster removal
