Hope everyone is out enjoying the 4th.....my 1977 Oday 25 with VIRE 7 inboard is sitting in the slip since the engine won't start. This is the original Finnish single cylinder 2 stroke gas engine that has run like a champ.....except for this year. I'm looking for a recommendation for a mechanic that is very familiar with work on a small gas marine engine in the Annapolis/Baltimore MD area. I found one guy but he was too big to get in the cockpit locker to service the engine. I've done all the usual...fresh gas, new plug. new fuel/water filter, appears gas is getting through as plug is wet with gas when I remove it after cranking for 10 seconds...just seems like it isn't firing....hope someone here might have a good reference. Thanks.

Have you tried new plug wires? Is there a distributor on this engine?

There are points and magneto coil behind the flywheel...trouble is on the ODay 25 the engins is mounted within 2 inches of fiberglass bulkhead....will need to cut access panel in glass to get access to flywheel or pull the engine...neither being fun tasks.
