Looking at buying a 1986 C27 Sloop

I am looking at buying a C27 with wheel steering and a Universal M-18. She was used in fresh water up until 1991 and sotred , for three years. It is currently being used on saltwater and has seen limited use (mostly summer usage) from 1994 to last summer. She appears to be in very good condition, however, I would not purchase it without a survey. I am interested in the types of problems current owners have experienced with the 1986 C27. Engine problems (M18), chain plate problems, water leaking in thru hatches, windows, keel bolts, handling underway, steering equipment problems, etc.  Any help anyone can provide is greatly appreciated.Thanks

Bob,I can only speak for myself,but I have had a 1985 C27 Tall Rig w/universal and wheel steering for 5 years and have had no problems in those 5 yrs.Its been in fresh water since new (I'm the second owner) When my wife and I move to Naples Florida in a few years we will probably sell her (the boat that is) and purchase a salt water boat down there.I think they are great boats and as long as you have a survey done by a surveyor of your choosing not the seller or dealer you should be in great shape.Good luck and if you have any additional questions you can e-mail me at: rweaver@pruproperties.com
