Been busy at work and a broken pinky again. I have a keel winch on order from E trailer $115.00! Then I’ll be able to support the keel whilst the trailer is pulled out from under. Got the compass polished and a new led (amazon). And been working some of the teak, 80 grit then 120 grit. I’m thinking of going with Star Brite Teak Sealer. Any better recommendations?

Here’s some info on the keel cable. Thanks to Stingy Sailor and the forums for the guidance and jumpstart. The original fork (at least to my 85) is a Loos & Co MS20667-8. This translates to 1/4” cable, fork opening of .313, the pin that goes through it is .375” diameter. There may be an aircraft fork to work, I’ll post the link to it also. I have not gotten a price on the Loos fork yet. I’ll get a local rigging supply to stage it up. The post from the forums has information regarding wire rope size and make up (how many ropes trusted together). I’ll also report back once I’ve consulted the rigging supply. The picture of the original cable shows what’s referred to as fish hooks in the cable. The original cable is about 10.5 feet to the fork (where the cable enters).

Here’s the links:

I will post an update once the mail arrives with the etrailer $125 shipped winch.

Thanks and stay tuned for more…

Have an awesome day!

While I’m at it, I am also going to drill the hole for the turning ball pivot lower, the online retailer sells the new tube to replace. Mine is fine and I may just re drill to save some moola. I am looking at sourcing 1-5/8 wet exhaust hose. I can have it sent to west marine and it’s about $13 in Texas. They are just a ways away from me.

Make sure the hose is top quality. The "volcano" the keel cable comes up through is below the waterline, so if the hose fails, cracks or comes loose, the boat sinks. I'd consider getting it from catalinadirect.com

Will do the CD hose and clamps.

I received the new winch. It’ll do just fine, after I drill the center hole and spray some zing on it, or get it hot dip galvanized. Without the center hole drilled the winch will be clocked to port or starboard depending on which hole from factory is used. I’ll try to get to a rigging supplier this week and update on how it goes.

Let me know if there’s any questions, suggestions, playful banter!

Jesse
