I'm expecting to look at a Catalina 30 soon that has been on the hard for about 3 years. I've seen the exterior and the bottom looks clean. I wondering what other areas I should be looking at with this particular model (1985) -- whether it's laid up or not. I should emphasise that if I'm interested in this boat I do plan a complete survey, so I'm realling interested in what to look at with this type Catalina in general. Thanks in advance for your response. Patrick

Contact Catalina

Contact Catalina (e-mail or call through their website)and give them the Serial number off the transom of the boat (upper right) They will send you the original order sheet for the boat. A useful piece of info to see if any mods where done to the boat and how much it was purchased for when new. good luck

check the power train

I'd be very careful of the engine and transmission. Be sure it was all pickled right the first time. In three years, a poorly pickled engine and transmission can gather a lot of internal rust
