I am looking to buy a 33 Pearson. However, the cabing where the mast sits is a bit warpped. Is this a structural problem. I was told by the owner that he bought it like this 20 years ago. I appears that it has given our as a result of wind preassure or perhaps it hit a piliing or a bridge. are you aware of any such issues with this boat

Oceanpalm, greetings from someone who spent many Winters in Miami waiting for weather to cross to Bimini. One of my favorite haunts was the flamenco club/taberna Casa Panza on Calle Ocho where we spent many interesting evenings. Now, to the matter. I am assuming your boat is a deck stepped 33 and that the cabintop that holds the tabernacle is warped. This is a structural problem and is not correct. Your deck is balsa cored and the core material has been crushed--causing the uneven surface. You should have a competent fiberglass repair person inspect the cabin top as well as below decks for compression and/or impact damage. This is normally caused by either overtightening the standing rigging over long periods of time, dramatic impact damage or water egress into the core allowing the compression to happen. The only proper repair is to remove the mast and recore and reglass the area. There is a very good fiberglass man who works at Hurricane Cove Boatyard on the Miami River-Bob Campbell. His work is bulletproof. If he's not there anymore, ask for Leslie at River Bend. She might know where he went. And, mention Rognvald sends his best. Buena Suerte, Ron
