Lighting the kerosene oven?

I have a Kenyon(?) 3-burner kerosene stove with oven in my Ontario 32. It's kinda growing on me - I don't mind the pre-heating and once it's going, it works really well with no noticeable smell. BUT - there's an oven, and I can't figure out how to use it.

Can someone tell me how to use the oven: where to put the preheat alcohol, what to light, how to regulate the heat...

The same as stove top to light and adjust. Except the oven should have a plate in the bottom over the burner you have to lift to light. Get a thermometer to check and adjust temp, hangs on rack type.

A hint-

I've used kerosene stoves on all my boats since 1976, and I've used 100% mineral spirits as a fuel for that entire time. Burns cleaner than the kerosene available these days, and doesn't cost any more.

No difference in lighting either, and you'll find you don't need to clean the orifice as often.

OK this is close (except that is for an alcohol stove, and 2-burner rather than 3). I think my problem lies in the phrase "... the baffles must be raised to prime the burner". I can see the burner under the plate, but I can't see how to get at it to prime it. Any suggestions?

I use a small plastic squeeze bottle with a flip open spout, and put the alcohol (denatured or red label rubbing) on top of the burner- it'll run down into the priming cup quite nicely. Just be sure to not squirt too much. Start with a bit too little, and after a time or two you'll know how much.

Pretty easy really.

Red label rubbing alcohol is 91 %. The 70% will work also, but lesser ones don't burn well.
