Lifeline netting, who's got it, do you like it?

Unfortunately we are not heading out into the gulf this weekend. Everything got pushed back to next weekend because I am waiting on a halyard and the main sheet. I am sure we will sail around the bay next weekend but there are a few projects to finish up before we spend more than a day sail out on the water.
I ordered the rest of the ball valves for the head. That has to be working. They may get here next week. I installed flange adapter fittings in the hull and just put pvc caps on them until I got around to buying the ball valves. While I was swimming around the boat I put rubber corks in the through hull. Then when I uncapped them they were perfectly sealed. After I installed the ball valve I opened the through hull and stuck a long screw driver down it to knock out the cork. A little water comes in but not much.
Tonight I have a soloniod and starter circuit to install. Tomorrow will be the netting now that I have seen how the pros install it.;)
Now that I know how to acclimate my wife to the boat so she won't get sea sick, I have been a lot more motivated to get things finished. The key was to go late on Friday night so we get there and go to sleep soon after on the boat. When she wakes up in the morning she doesn't feel sick at all.

Pretty cool, hermit, the navy spent hundreds of thousands, if not millions of dollars, figuring just that thing out!

My wife used to get nauseous and 'motion ease' worked well, some sort of oil that you put a dab behind the ears, I thought it was snakeoil, but kept her happy. Now she's doesn't need it I don't think. Spending a lot of time below decks at a heel isn't a good idea for those that are sensitive, heck I don't like it either unless I can see the horizon.

Give yourself plenty of time for the lifeline, it took a bit longer than we expected, and it was like 100 degrees out... gets hot in the sun especially when reflecting up off the deck. My wife helped a LOT, but some of the time at least one of us had to be in the house with our 4 month old when she wasn't napping, we had a monitor at the boat when she wasn't... if it wasn't so hot we would have had her sleeping in the boat instead.

You guys seem to be doing it right and getting to the boat and sleeping on it, glad Jeannette is acclimating to the new environment.

Have a doggy baby who doesn't much like the water. She wears a life preserver, would like to add netting as second layer of "security", (will also add a jackline & attach her during heavier sailing).

Wondering if anyone can share opion on best way to attach to the bow stanchions (don't want to take it all the way around the bowsprit). Saw an example of one sort of "woven" with line a couple of years ago but can no longer find it online.

Thanks for your help!

I put some netting on to keep a small dog aboard at dockside, they are not allowed to roam while underway. She chewed through it. Replaced bad section, Chewed through it again. Thought about making the net of copper wire and attaching it to an electric fence but was vetoed. No netting now, use a gate at the dock to keep her from wandering the marina unsupervised

Wow, I have been planning on heading out into the gulf of Mexico for a half a year now, and haven't gone. And we're still planning on it next month!

I didn't run the netting all the way around the bow either. I ran it up to a point where I didn't think my dog could fall through, then trimmed it at the angle to the vertical bow rail and then spiraled a cord around the vertical tube lacing it through the netting. I cut the netting near the knots so I didn't have to cotterize the ends of too much netting.

Well, Hermit, nice of you to ask. And since you did, no, I don’t scan the forum looking for highjacks. I don’t have to- they pop up when I click on a thread to read it. I scroll up the previous posts to see what others have posted. When I get to a post that has nothing at all to do with the thread, it’s called a hijack. It’s when someone makes a post that is nothing relevant, but serves a selfish, self-serving need. You have previously said you do not do that, but it is nice that you’ve cleansed your soul and confessed that you do, and will continue to do so. You made my point, thank you. That’s all.
