Hi Ed,
thanks for the reply
yes, bare wire is also my choice
I have heard good things about the 1x9 -- have you had any experience or seen any on boats around your areas of sailing?
Would you have any idea how long were your bow to stern dimensions for the upper and lower lifelines?
The previous lifelines were as you described. Had them made in Titusville in '06, but they have since gotten pretty torn up.
I have cut off the badly corroded stanchion top-ends where the uppers went (seems like perhaps due to a huge amount of galvanic loss -- p.o. did not believe in zincs), replaced with the sea-dog 1" caps. Great fit, sturdy, big and easy for the admiral to support herself on as she boards and ever so gracefully sticks the landing...
Upon close inspection I also noticed the holes in the stanchions for the lowers were also very sharp & jagged...tried a few different alternatives for a couple years without success. I have since covered them with the schaeffer stanchion rings (

There are no swaging services in or around the area I'm sailing. I have chosen to go with a stainless thimble at each end -- lashing on the bow and a turnbuckle/shackle at the stern so as to tension to desired strength. The thimble would also require a crimped sleeve and some sailtape wraps to keep bleeding to a minimum.
Unlike swaging services, first aid services are pretty decent around the marina...
I have moved/modified my pulpit and pushpit, so using a standard h33 template would not work for me at this point. However, I would like to know the lengths measured for such a template.
maybe I will give Seco a call and ask them for these lengths.
Once again thanks for the help.
cheers
Bob
