With all this rain we have been getting in South Florida, I have notice a water leak coming out of the bathroom floor to the dinning, It looks like is leaking from the main mast because the bathroom floor is dry. Could it be the mast step and if it is... what is the best way to fix it ???

mast leak

Quite a few years ago I had some water coming in through the VHF antena wire hole which enters the cabin in the head below the mast. It too happenned after alot of rain. I think that water gets in the mast and runs down inside. I drilled a very small hole right near the bottom of the mast ie 1/8" and water came out. I haven't had a problem since. I know that you probably shouldn't drill such holes but I think the water can now drain out the new hole rather than pooling in the bottom of the mast and finding its way through the antenna wire hole. Cheers

Leaky Mast

I own a 1988 C-30 which I bought 2 years ago. My bilge had water in it constantly. I thought this was a normal condition until I read that bilges should be dry. One day it was raining and I noticed rain water running down my mast into both sides of the openings where the internal halyards exit the mast. Viola! That was where my bilge water was coming from. It was a simple fix to attach self-adhering rubber gutters to divert water away from the holes.
