is it leaking at the stuffing box nut...if it is.. it is supposed to leak when under way.....about 2 to 4 drops a min......if it is leaking while at rest it may need tighting a little.....just loosen the locking nut on the stuffing box and tighten the big packing nut a little at a time and wate and see if that stops it...but make sure if you tighten it that it still leaks when under way...if you cant stop the leak you may have to repack the packing nut...there is a good artical in compass marine here on this site that you may need to read to understand what you have...assuming you have no honed skills at this time ....but never fear in time you will be well trained.....good luck...I see the prop shaft on my cal 2-27 is leaking.
What is the procedure?
I don't follow that, Bill. I've loosened a too-tight packing nut before. It can take a little while for the packing to adapt to the new space, I think, but while adjusting, if you over-tighten a bit, I'm sure you can back off.I'd say an 1/8 to a 1/4 turn at a time. You can't back up in this process as once it is compressed and you loosen it it leaks even more. Go slowly.
Before you do anything refer to this excellent site. Step by step, with photos. Especially THINGS NOT TO DO.I see the prop shaft on my cal 2-27 is leaking.
