MattThere is 2 ways to get water in your boat at the rudder post. 1 is from the bootom of the boat there is a packing for that. 2 from the top, I had the same problem and have not been able to eleminate it completly. I slowed it down by deverting the water that comes around the rear hatch it funnels right on top of the rudder post. I used 3m 4200 to make small dams to get the water started down befor the post.Good LuckJim NixonCatalina 30 #1486PS check the arcives I think there were some mention of this
We've had our boat for three years now and we're still trying to solve that problem. Short of redesigning the whole thing, I'm not sure there is a fix. If you find one, please let us all know! Good luck!!
I repacked my stuffing box for the rudder post using 3/16" packing. Unfortunately, it now leaks more than before. I'm pretty sure I must've used the wrong size packing. Anyone know what size packing I'm supposed to use???Many thanks.
I had a small amount of water running down the rudder post and then leaking into the quaterberth. I removed the wood divider at the aft end of the q/berth and attached a piece of plastic to keep the water from entering the cabin. A very cheap fix and so far works great.
