I'd like to have lazy- jacks on my h27. Since I don't unstep the mast I'm thinking of attaching lines to the topping lift at set intervals in order to loop said lines around the boom . Is this feasible ? or any other suggestions ?

Convenience

Hello Bill My advise would be not to use the topping lift. While this design is good for lowering sails, it makes raising them a hassle. The problem being that the battens will catch in the lazy jacks. I would suggest you use a pair of blocks mounted at the crossarm either side of the mast. Lead your main lines from the base of the mast, up to these blocks and down to the boom. Rig your secondary lines from this as needed. The beauty of this method is when raising the sail, you can slack the main line at the mast and pull the whole affair forward and out of the way of the sail. You only need a small cleat at base of mast to fasten it to. Good luck red

EZ-Jax?

Hi Bill, I've kept my eye on your post hoping we would hear more from those who have done this. I agree with Red, don't attach to the topping lift. I selected a simple system that uses a stretch cord that allows you to secure them at the mast out of the way. These were very inexpensive from Sailnet. There was also a very excellent pictorial a while back for making your own. These also retracted. You should find those in a search on Photo Forum. And finally, in watching the HOW forums for a few years now I think the Mack Pack is a favorite. This assumes you weren't thinking of a furling boom or mast. :)
