After a month, found the sole of my h26 soaked and bowed. It had a bad patch in front of the galley, just under the companionway hatch, which leaks. Sole is squishy and the bad spot has buckled. Looks like spring time will bring a repair. Any advice? Words of encouragement or creative swears I have not heard? Regards

My 2 cents for what is worth.

I would remove the old flooring intact as possible for a pattern, cut marine plywood to fit and cover it with the following. link. Teak and holly is nice but is pain to keep .

Water

It appears that the water came from the companionway sliding hatch. Thanks to the provider of the link.

that is threads slipped the nut welded to bracket. Sorry for multiple submissions.

Picture of the flooring and bolt says it all.

Merg, what a sad sight. Our galley flooring is starting to buckle slightly and I fear my elusive leak is taking its toll likewise. How thick is the orig flooring and what does the substructure look like immediately below the flooring? Is it set into an indentation in the mold that would trap water or does it adhere to the top of the ballast tank or does water in the bilge somehow flow under there? I recently installed a sunbrella poptop hatch and companionway slat cover which seems to have cured the galley floor puddles but I'm still getting small amounts of water in the bilge coming from somewhere. On a very nasty day in Tampa bay last week when the seas were steep and close, while motoring into a 25+kt headwind I took a large breaking wave completely over the bow which then washed across the cabin roof and flooded the cockpit, washing out the stern. It flooded the trough around the poptop and when we pitched forward on the very next wave it overflowed forward inside, dumping it's contents over the salon table. If the trough fills from a heavy rain or wave and can't empty rearward, it'll leak volumes into the cabin for sure. The slats leak pretty well too, especially if rain is driving against them. My new cover would have prevented the mess but it was stowed below and I spent an hour mopping up 3gal of saltwater on everything. Nelson, Thanks for the pics and insight. This is a must do project for me as I've run out of other possibilities for my reoccurring bilge water issue. Was there any damage to the bracket thread or was the bolt and caulking the only failure. One bolt seems inadequate to hold such a critical component in place especially with the CB wallowing around on a single attachment point. Estimated CB bolt project time if all goes well? It seems I could do this on the trailer without raising the boat and dropping the CB. Thanks for any input, Michael

The bolt is a real big sucker so it does the job all by itself. Best clue as to whether this is your cause is to tighten that bolt while centerboard is still on it, and if the bolt slips as mine did, voila, you have worn threads that won't hold the nut on the bracket against the weight of the centerboard, allowing water in. Only apparent damage was to bolt threads due to movement or stress on threads. You probably won't be able to access bracket unless you raise boat significantly on stands inserted as you can around or underneath boat on trailer. It's still a little awkward but saves you paying to have the boat lifted onto stands at a boatyard. You can paint the centerboard and inside its well while bracket and centerboard are removed. You also need a wrench socket appropriately sized for the head of the bolt and an extender inside cabin. This spring after I put the boat back in, I still had a little leakage until I finally seemed to have properly tightened it. Dry as a bone now. Good luck with the project.

Is the nut secured

Is the nut on the bracket welded to it, or otherwise attached? Will dropping the bracket effect the mast compression post and its seal? I just finished jacking this big dog up to paint the bottom and would hope to simply check/replace the bolt while it's on the trailer tonight, replacing and recaulking the bolt. Trying to keep it as simple as possible to check one more leaky possibility off my list. Merg, Maybe Hunter will have the same floor material available or a paper template they could send. It may just be a laminate that's glued to an underlayment like marine ply. Their factory service guys at the Fl plant are very helpful and should explain the process which is probably pretty straight forward. Just came back from Strictly sail in St Pete and many production boat mfg now use a similar type faux wood flooring but I'm not sure about how it's set into place. Thanks, Michael

leaky hatch

The sliding hatch on my 260 tends to leak when it rains heard too. I think the channel for all the water it collects (it is a pretty good sized surface area) just isn't big enough to handle heavy rain so it over flows into the cabin. The previous owner rarely (if ever) oiled the teak inside so it was a bit tarnished in spots. I cleaned it up and then used some Cetol Natural on the sole and the recaulked all around. Now the water just beads up on the wood whenever I get a big rain shower.

Sunbrella hatch cover

we routinely got water after rain until installing the sunbrella sliding hatch and companionway cover. Now, bone dry. For the reasons cited above, I consider that cover standard equipment. Way less hassle than dealing with the short and long term consequences of the water.

Leak found

I had the same problem. Poured water with a hose on the cockpit. Looked inside of battery compartment: water was coming in from the hole where the wires come in. Sealed the hole and also the groove on the cockpit floor with caulk. No more problems. Roberto
