I'm considering a 1967 Pearson Wanderer, and the seller says that it came with a Lathrop engine, which is still running well.

I haven't gotten a look at her yet, but I'm a bit nervous about this big old gasoline inboard. I can't find hardly any information about them. Will this thing be a nightmare?

Thanks for any advice.

Can you get parts for it? That would make it a big one if you cant. Lathrop looks to be some kind of antique?

Well, that's my reckoning as well. According to the owner, they were standard on Pearsons in 1967 after they "ran out" of Atomic 4s.

But there seems to be very little information about them anywhere, they must have gone the way of the Dinosaurs.

So use it as a bargaining chip to reduce the price. Then keep your eyes peeled for a Yanmar or atomic. Pearsons are nice boats as I hear.

Just the little amount I poked around, Lathrop seems to be ancient, like 20's and 30's, but who knows. I did see a small 4 banger that looked like an atomic, maybe they arent as old as it looked. But if it runs okay what the heck? Run it until the replacement shows up.

My '67 wanderer had a Lathrop in it ( replaced with a universal diesel years ago) the motor I believe is a triumph spitfire engine that has been marinized. It ran well until it started shooting flames out the carb.
