Trying to buy the right boat, but many of the 27's and 30's I look at do not have the shoal/wing keels. Had a broker tell me it is possible to buy a wing and retrofit the existing keel. I have e-mailed Catalina with no response as of yet. Is this possible? Anyone ever seen or heard of this being done? Help!

Sounds possibly very very expensive

I can't imagine it would be worth it even it's possible. Sounds like the broker is just trying to sell you a boat that doesn't meet your needs. Keep looking I'm sure you will find the right Catalina eventually.

If you are willing to spend the money, ANYTHING is possible. There are many boats out there that will meet your criteria without serious modification. Change the Broker, not the Keel

Look for a new broker, this guy is just trying to sell you anything.

Try looking around the Great Lakes

I'm guessing that many boats in the southeast are fin-keeled, whereas you can find a whole lot of boats in just about any price range up here with wing-keels (due to the depth considerations of, primarily, Lake Erie and Lake St. Clair). The only extra cost would be to ship down south (which can go anywhere from about $3-10,000.00 depending on the trucker and the size of the boat. Just a suggestion...good luck!
