Keel Bolt Torque

While my 1978 C30 is out of the water I thought I would torque the keel nuts. Upon searching the forum archives, it was discovered that the C30 tech notes recommend 50-60 lbs/ft. However when I called Catalina, they specify 105 lbs/ft of torque. Does anyone have any insight into this? Thanks in advance. Steve

105 Should be right

Steve, I believe that 105 ft-lbs is correct. I know 105 is the proper torque for the C36, and the two boats have very similar design specs as far as the keel goes.

What about a 250?

Any ideas on what a 2005 250 WK would need for torque? I've been told that Catalina says 39 lbs/ft. This seems low, but it IS from the manufacturer.

Couple things to consider

Steve, Catalina also put out an advisery that the wood in the bildge under the bolts should be removed. If you just torque down you might just keep sinking the nut down into the wood. The wood is under a thin 1/4 inch layer of Fiberglass. When you were given the 105 lbs torque requirement did you specify to catalina your bolt size and type 105 is good for the stainless 3/4 bolts not all are stainless. Also you check for corrosion before tightening down esspecally were this wood is Located. ED
