Keel bolt torque

Is anyone aware of a specified torque value, for tightening the keel bolts on a C27? The paint and fairing compund at the junction of the lead and the stub keel is always cracking. I'm not sure if this is a result of improperly tightened keel bolts, or if it's caused when we load the boat onto the trailer.

Keel Bolts

I called Catalina and talked to a guy in the customer service department, he gave me the tourque spec for my bolts. I replaced the nuts on my keel bolts last summer. They were rusted and I also had the crack at the keel joint at the leading edge. I wanted to know the options for replacing the bolts if it came to that ( I was glad it didn't). He faxed me several pages of info (including drawings) on installing new bolts. One option was installing new through bolts and the other was installing long stainless lag bolts. He also faxed the instuctions for repairing the crack (also called the Catalina Smile) at the keel joint, it can be caused by placing too much of the boats wieght to far aft on the keel. I can't remember the exact tourqe he gave me but it also depends on the type of keel bolts installed on your boat. Not sure of the guys name but if you call Catalina and ask for cust. serv. they should be able to dirrect you to the right person. They were very helpful to me. I hope this helps. Good luck.
