My dad passed away last June and I am still trying to tie up some of his loose ends. I have manage to keep sailing 2 or 3 times a week. If you remember I had an aortic valve replacement and manage to survive that. The dilemma of sailing while on Warfaran was solve. They switched me to Pradaxa to prevent clotting and because of a post op and apparently permanent Afib condition I will have to remain on it. However, I have the perfect solution for some of my sails. I have been sailing on a Beneteau 58 yacht owned by a very nice emergency room physician about once a week. How's that for the best of both worlds . What a beautiful boat. The quality and workmanship is gorgeous. Most of his crew are avid sailors and a few crew on race boats. There are usually 10 on board, mostly women. Everyone contributes to the potluck so every sail is a feast. He has a code zero asymmetrical that we fly nearly every time. He is trying to train the crew for races this summer. He has sparked my interest in racing. I still get out on my boat on weekends with my friends.
Here is a video I made of one of the sails on his boat.
On one of the last sails we found Frank Gehry's yacht Foggy in the main channel getting ready to go out and then sailing off into the fog.
Here are a few pictures and a link to a couple of articles about it.

I thought we were pointing high but according to the AIS she was 21* higher.
Here is a picture of the Ruby D'eau from the dock. Larry Sunderland's (Zac's dad) boat is in the next slip.
I will try to stay in touch more often, I do miss you guys.

Good to know you're still kicking. Beautiful boat.

Must be nice to have a friend with such a yacht. Of all my friends who sail my 26 footer boat is the largest.

Welcome back Caguy! What kind of hull am I looking at, it looks to be cold-molded wood? Jackdaw, what is the 411 on this sled?

Well, talk about good news/bad news! What YC does the Bennie sail from? You can still sail your own boat(s) right? I didn't see anything in your meds that would obviously stop it. As far as Frank's yacht, I must say I still don't understand it. Beautiful and loony all at the same time. I guess the mast-up storage and launching for MdR continues to be an issue. Anyhow, welcome back and enjoy!

Richard belongs to the Pacific Mariners Yacht Club PMYC. I am still able to sail and launching is no problem. I still get out on my boat about once a week. Weekends work best because all of my friends still work.
The designs on the freeboard are actually ports.

CAguy glad you're well!

Some may know Frank Gehry is a long-time sailor and racer. For the last few years he has raced his First 40.7 out of MDR. All of his boats have had FOG in their names, those are his initials. This boat was designed by German Frers and Gehry did the trimmings. As others note it's a bit too fanciful for my taste. It's very interesting construction and detailing reportedly gave the yard fits. The hull and deck are a carbon-larch-foam-larch-carbon laminate. So a VERY fancy cold-mold! I've also heard different stories about who actually owns it... Frank, one of his very private friends, or both of them. Anyway it's a very cool boat. Interesting to see it with white sails. I would have expected a full-zoom set of carbon.

CA that B58 is a sweet looking ride as well. You are correct; go above 50 feet and Beni really turns up the detail on the boats. Beneteau also owns the custom builder CNB in France and they use a lot of their techniques and finish. At nearly 60 feet you are talking about a VERY SPECIAL boat. Lucky!

CNB details here. Trés spécial!
