I hear something other than a

model who's holding the instrument with hands backwards (the photo on the HOW home page.)

Yeah, I know, the image could be reversed but I doubt it. I always hate it when actors/models pretend to be musicians.

Sorry, just an OT rant.

When I hoist my canvas, instead of hearing trumpets, I stop hearing my wife complaining.

Does anyone else hear trumpets when they raise their sails?

Rich
Yes, definitely. Sometimes its kinda a ta-da kinda tune and sometimes its the "Call to Post" tune before a horse race. I always thought that its mostly in my head so I never told anyone before. Glad that I not alone here.

I was in a sailboat for 2 weeks and swore I heard old time radio anytime I tried to get to sleep. No trumpets though.

No Trumpets(though I'm a trumpet player myself), but instead blessed silence while the admiral asks if I'm ready for a cold one or Jimmy Buffet(who else?) if I'm singlehanding, while 'cabin dog' pushes his bowl my way to let me know that HE's ready for a cold one! :D

Personally, I always hear (in my head) the theme from Raiders of the Lost Ark. I know it has nothing to do with sailing, but it's a catchy tune that always makes me think of the adventure that awaits...

Liked MissTerri's reference to "Orinoco Flow, one of my favorites.

We like to play Amazing Grace when raising the sails. We first heard it played when raising the sails on Legacy, the former Windjammer Barefoot Cruises sailing vessel, years before we acquired Resolution. It struck a cord, and we adopted it ourselves. The bagpipes just seem right. Almost puts a lump in your throat.

i would have to agree notcook. I suppose everyone has their own opinion, though. I was going to close it early but stayed till the bitter end. It never ceases to amaze me when they say they are sailing away on the sea in a motor boat !?
