Yes. The sailmaker builds a luff pad, made of foam, into the luff of the sail to do this. Mine is set up for two reefs. It should also be reinforced at the reef points.

Virtually all sail companies have foam luff panels that are sewn into the sail, parallel with the luff. As the sail is rolled up, the added thickness helps the sail to maintain it's shape, up to a point.

Actually North uses rope luffs for furling headsails, just FYI, and not foam, which is a Bainbridge product. Both work fine.

Correct me if I am wrong but are some of the earlier and now older mid-70 Hood furlers only useable in two positions, that is, all in or all out?
