best blocks I've found for the money...

...are the Harken ESP series, which are designed for cruisers who care about longevity and performance but don't want to pay for the lightweight blocks that racers drool over. I use the 75mm mastbase blocks on my boat, and they're absolutely bombproof. You'll be able to get by with the 57 mm blocks on your rig, Roger.

Those do look like a good option. I like the more traditional appearance.

It looks like the axle is a tube. Is it hollow so you can put a light shock cord through it to hold the blocks up with the lower lifeline?
