We just purchased the 222. We think the CDI jib furler is on backwards, but being new to sailing we are not sure. Is the brand name supposed to face the front of the boat with the opening to the stern? Also, where does the halyard get cleated? Thanks.

is to refer you to the CDI website so that you can see and read about your furler. I hope this helps, If it does not let us know... It could be that when you put the forestay pin in the furler was 180 degrees off you connection. r.w.landau

Yes ,the opening faces the rear of the boat.The halyard rides in the track opposite the sail.There should be a small black plastic car that rides in this groove. The genoa halyard attached to this car. The lead from the car goes to a cleat on the black shoulder just above the drum iself.

Hawk did you mean the furling line?
The original rout for the furling line passes through an eye on the starboard side of the foredeck, through another eye on the side deck to a cleat aft of the starboard lite on the outside of the cabin. Yes the opening faces aft as stated. The furling line seems to work best with a clockwise wrap. Have fun!

Rob, have mine running the port side .
because I use that side less. I almost always go forward from the starboard side. I have the furler line running thru fairleads on the outside of the pulpit and stancions through fairleads mounted on the posts of the pulpit and stanchions and then up to a Johnson cleat on the stanchion just forward of the cockpit. It has worked great since I installed this set setup on my first O'Day 25 cb. The wrap of the furler depends in the side the UV was installed on the sail. The first furling sail I bought had the UV on the Port side. What is nice about the CDI furler is that the drum can be rotated in many directions. This must be done before stepping the mast but if you look on the bottom of the furler there are a number of holes in different positions. So, It doesn't matter which side the UV is on, the drum can be directed for the line to run down either side of the boat. My furler opening aims 45 degrees to port. My furler line enters the drum on the starboard side of the drum and it is aimed directly at the forward port post of my pulpit where the first fairlead is connected. If the UV is on the port side the line will enter the drum on the starboard side and viseversa. r.w.landau

Thanks for all of your great replies. We also checked out the CDI sight and found installation directions. We realize since the halyard line is placed in wrong,our sail is also tied to the wrong end of the halyard, so tomorrow we are going to get down there and fix all.
