I've often wondered...

My H26 is clearly marked as being built in '98 (per hull number ID). Yet, the specs on-line indicate the boat was produced up till '97. Anyone have any idea as to why this might be? And yes, I do know the difference between the H26 and the 260. Thanks in advance.

Maybe like auto model years...

...except here the HIN reflects model year NOT actual year produced. alan

Go with the hull #

I believe the on-line specs on this site are contributed by owners, and some of those numbers aren't always correct. Your hull number should end in a letter, followed by 3 numbers, for example K900. The letter indicates the month built: K = #11, or November, 9 = the year it was built: 1999, and 00 = the model year: 2000. As for the rest of the hull number, HUN is the manufacturer, 29 is the model, (290), 343 is the actual serial number. Hunter starts numbering at 100, so 343 is really the 243rd boat in the line. The whole number for a 290 would look like this: HUN29343K900.

August Beginning of Model Year

Alan is correct - August is the beginning of the new model year, just like for autos. However, that doesn't look like it will help with your situation. Also, with regard to the specs, Greg is also correct in that many/all? are contributed by owners or private parties, consequently it is very possible the year could be in error. Maybe one could research this and give Phil an e-mail?
