I need to see a shrink Casually reading the ads on Sunday I found a super sweet deal on a nearly new H260 from a really good guy for a boat just slightly newer than the boat that we were perfectly happy with. I’m not believing we bought it, without a trailer, at the beginning of Hurricane season and I still have a H240 4-sale in covered storage(see link). What causes such crazy behavior? Two WB boats would make most sailors think I’ve lost it but (rationalizing ahead) we are dealing with a serious deep wtr dock space cost issue in Fl and the boat needs to be portable for dodging storms too. We also needed to be able to escape the reoccurring red tide that has been plaguing us by sailing Florida’s many lakes and bays or drifting some larger rivers. The 260 better fits our big kids including our 14y/o 170lb 6’4” son too, and has a wheel, all nice but what about my growing navy. We’re happy with the new boat even though it’s not rigged as well as our 240, we’ll bring her home next to her little sister the 240 until she sells(see link) and tinker with the 260 here. Hoping for a quiet storm season for the fleet. Here’s a pic of the first day out and a happy Admiral. Have a safe season ~~_/)~~ Michael and Kelli S/V’s 240/260 Bonafide

You are not alone friend.

If all started 20 years ago with a Sunfish, I needed a 26' Lugar sail boat kit, saw a Hobie cheep, needed a 20'Mako for fishing and found a 31 Hunter, sold her and got a 336 Hunter, needed a dingy and a 14" Starcraft crab boat for the big Jimmies (crabs) in MD. I have a 6HP Johnson and a 5 HP Nissan and West Marine sends me customer appreication letters so I can get more boat stuff. I still have all of these boats except the 31' which I think about all the time. Boats and water are a real attraction. We could always go shopping at the mall or sit in a bar drinking..... na, I would rather go looking at boats. Thanks for the reality check.

Congratulations

Looks like you'll have your cake and eating it, too. I am fighting the urge for more boat myself - lack of a barn to put the spare in is carrying the day, for now. Fair winds.

Rent a boat

Maybe you could just rent out the 240 to those yankees who lurk around Sarasota looking for rides during the snowbird season.

I Think we all have it

87 h23: 77 O'day Mariner (now in the hands of my son): 10' Fishing boat: hard shell Kayak: inflatable Kayak: 2-8' inflatables. (Don't let my wife see this list, I think she's forgotten about some of them). It's just that selling a boat feels kinda like turning your daughter over to white slavers. Maybe we need a support group. Dave h23 "Wind Dreamer"

Why don't we sell them?

My fleet is: 1978 AFC17 Minitonner in storage and for sale- (anyone ever hear of this boat?), 1988 Hunter 23 - (the boat I love and use), a very old Laser (for the one time a summer my son comes home from school- so I can not sell that boat), an 8'styrofaom Snark (the kids first boat- which I will sell if I get motivated to do it.), and a 16'ABS Bluehole Canoe (in need of major repair after #2 son wrapped it around a rock while whitewater canoeing). I find that I just go out on the H23 and sail it rather than work on the other boats and try to sell them. My wife is not happy with the fleet.

What's your point?

We have an H320, a Cherubini 27, a Starwind 223 and a San Juan 21. I'm not counting the dinguies, power boat, jet skis and the sunfish.

Blimey, I am queesy

Is this what I have to look forward to? Are there any little pills to avert this type of behavior? I have a 240 that I am very happy with , but~~feeling an urge~~ I've been cruising with the eyes and mind on something in the 26-29 range for the move to FL in 3 yrs. now that I have learned from all of you. I am inclined to believe I will have a 240 for the inland lakes and something else on the pond. ~~what is this dizzieness I am feeling~~

Solution: Go Catamaran!

Here's a solution for you: Rig up a couple armas between the two and go catamaran. Us: owner of a Falcon 16 (my first sloop sailboat) and a HL-35 (with dingy). Haven't used the Falcon in years but it's a really nice boat circa 1965. It is basically a fiberglass boat (hull and deck) with a cuddy to duck out of the spray and mahogany plywood U-shaped cockpit seats and mahogany cockpit coming with lots of stowage underneath. Rigging is aluminum mast and boom with stainless steel stays. Rudder is swing-up aluminum and the centerboard is swing-up which is great for beaching the boat. The problem is, if we sell it we won't get very much, and there are a lot of memories there. Sailed all over Naraganset Bay, made an open water trip from Point Judith (RI) out to Block Island, and sailed out the Golden Gate and down the coast a ways, to mention a few. It was great for camping on with sleeping bags under the cuddy and a boom tent - a bit of a pocket cruiser in a way. Designer was McVay in Nova Scotia. I don't envy your decision of what to do.

How bad can this get?

OMG Benny wins but as Steve says "what the hell" I feel better so never mind the shrink I need more room to "surround myself with the things I love". I'm not really ready to admit to all the other boats (sheepishly add 4) kickin' around but everyones honesty with their affliction is really touching. Thanks, I should go sailing now that I own his/her boats. If a man who rents apts is known as a slum lord what is a boater that rents his cherished sailboats to perfect strangers? A slave trader?? I'm crackin' up. Therapy in order for that one:) I feel better knowing I'm not alone.....really...... Now hurry up and hand me those classifieds, its been 2wks since I bought a boat man!! Psst, Hey you, I know a guy with a killer deal on a really nice 240;) Michael and Kelli Still happy and surrounded by "boat love":)

Free storage and delv from fleet lord

Chuck I'm a very understanding guy (call me "fleet lord")when it comes to buying a boat and I have the space to store a fellow sailors purchase from my "fleet". Because it's close I would be happy to bring it to Suncity to sail with you when you get down. That way it's kinda like an interview when sharing one of the family(that being my 240):) Call me if you want more pics/info, my ph#s in the ad. It's an absolutely perfect boat for TPA bay and the beaches. Thanks Michael and Kelli

Have our 336 listed up here, a trailerable in FL does sound interesting though. Thanks for the offer.

Nearly honest list of boats that I own now.

While not too impressive(there is always room for improvement), I guess everything should count when I go to the sailing shrink for therapy. 2 13' kayaks 1 16' cc fishing boat 1 24' 2000 H240 (4-sale above) 1 26' 2004 H260 others that shouldn't count (misc inflatable dingy/project boats and tons of windsurfing gear that really shouldn't count because I've been so honest about everything else.....really:) The barn's overflowing with boats sticking out everywhere....but I really don't see a problem theres room to add more roof since we sold the all horses. And like Benny said...Hey whats the point. Surrounded by the love of my fiberglass sweethearts. ~~_/)~~ Michael
