It's 2014-Do you know where your keel bolts are-torque wise?

On my very new to me '84 I recently checked the torque on my keel bolts just 'cause the surveyor said to. Some were no more than 20-40 lbs vs the 160 they should be!
With all the recent press on lost keels, our 70-80s era boats may need a quick check.

Is the 160 correct for all the O'Day keels? I have the 272.

Thanks,

Andrew

Well then, I guess I will take my torque wrench and add that to my list of chores while we are refurbishing the boat!

Thanks,

Andrew

Be careful. Check the size of the bolt then get a recommended torque from a table for the material. The 3/4 inch bolts on a 34 are probably higher than the bolts on a 27. 160 foot pounds is a huge amount of clamping force.

I was reading the manual today for my 272 and it noted the 272 has 3/4 in bolts as well.
Mine appear to be fine. No leaks below..Thankfully, pat
