Is the Gooseneck Slide Adjustable?

Having never unloosened the upper and lower screws on the boom gooseneck fitting, I was wonderering if this is an adjustable slide type arrangement or if these support/holding tabs actually screw into the mast. If I can adjust my gooseneck (boom) height without having to redrill new holes in the mast, this would be just have I may need. Thanks for any info. on this area of the boat (tall rig - '88 model). Bob

Don't know what boat you are talking about, but I haven't seen any adjustable gooseneck fittings on any midsize Catalina. Years ago, the gooseneck fitting was mounted on a slide to allow you to tighten the luff of the sail without having the top of the sail above the upper black band. Then the rating guys went wild and crazy and added a lower black band that the bottom of the sail had to be above. This made the an adjustable height boom of little value. Now days, the boat manufacturers fix the location of the boom (at the lower black band) and you tighten the luff of the main with the halyard (to the upper black band), and then finish tightening the luff with the cunningham. Its a Catalina 30

Well I have the tall rig and the top of my main still has a foot to go! I was told the bolt/rope line may be quite shrunk and needs to be replaced. It is the original '88 factory sail. My leeech is horrible and stretched and I caanot sail with the bimini up. I thought a quick solution is to raise the boom, allowing the main to be raised higher. The fittings below and above the gooseneck appear permanent. Thanks Bob

Not adjustable but

I just moved mine up afew inches and put the bottom screw in the top hole on the mast and then i could stand under the bimini and drilled some new holes. This worked ok but it was a pain to put the boom on with the sail on it becouse the sail port was now covered .I did not want to drind a new sail port even though the guys from catalina said it would be OK I have a TR1988 C30 with all the same problems as you have . I had a duchmen system and when i moved my sail up the back stay rubed on the sail bad .The next year i bought a ridged vang from gahur and a new main from national sail supply with a coustom cut for the bimini and full battens with added roach.The boom is angeled up about 10 " in the back .Its ok but the boom angle makes it harder to get the right sail shap and i dont think you can use the extra sail area. so I would cut the mast port highter.Ps the vang was bought throw the manufactor and works sweet with the bimini for down wind sailing .It was less then 300 bucks from Gauhar ( not sure of spelling) John
