NWS projecting category 3 storm targeting Charleston Saturday morning. Carolina sailors , take note.

Each new forecast seems to be taking it further east. Last night they had it going across Fla., then it was hitting the Georgia/Fla. border. Now it is Charleston. I hate to see Kiawah get torn up, one of my favorite places in the world. Definitely one to look out for in NC.

I am keeping an eyeball on that possibility as well. Will decide by Wednesday what to do in the New Bern area.

Hopefully

Irene will go by a little offshore, putting the east coast on the west side of her, which is not nearly as strong. Watching it closely here on the gulf coast and hoping you east coasters don't get hit too hard.

Hope it doesn't hit us but not much can be done about it. Double up on the lines and hope the dock doesn't float off the end of the pilings. Don't have a lift out contract..too expensive. Could take it way up the Cape Fear somewhere and anchor off some creek, but that has it's own set of problems. Wish I wasn't 135 miles away. Fingers crossed...but no matter, unless it turns away altogether...somebody is going to get it.

Here is the latest track. It is expected to make landfall as a category 3 hurricane. Keep in mind that Hurricane Ike hit the Texas coast as a category 2 but was quite a bit larger so it pounded the area for a longer time.

My son is supposed to show up for his new job at Merritt Island on Friday.. I told him he might want to stand by a day or so. and call before going.

Here in St. Croix we were lucky. At the town marinas all boats have to leave and fend on their own. The docks were emptied and now the boats are back.
Be careful at the docks. Think about the surge and possibly waves when you are tied up.

looks like the first severe casualty of Irene is the famous Necker Island in the BVI, Current reports say that no one was seriously hurt though.

Where do the boats go? .....over by Salt River Bay?

To echo the other sentiments I am thinking about all of you east coasters and hoping that Irene will not cause too much trouble. Best of luck to everyone!

CUrrent track has a wilmington hit then proceeding to New Bern then the Greenville/Little Washington area. Hope the house survives never mind the boat. This could be a Katrina type event, they are talking category 4 on some reports.

Dang, things are not looking too good for us in North Carolina according to those models. I've lived on the coast most of my life and been through 7 to 8 hurricanes, but this is the first time I've had a boat in the water that I can't get out. I'll have to take off work and run down before it hits (if it does) and tie everything down.

I would like to stay in Wilmington during the storm to be able to check on my boat but I doubt that my wife will go along with that.
