A hurricane (I forget which name) hit the jersey shore in 1962. I was down OCNJ the weekend afterward with a friend whose cousin was living there. Caused quite a bit of damage.

I would seriously think of having your boat pulled if you have BoatUS insurance that covers it for that. It's a tough call as you'll be closer to storm winds than we will be on the Chesapeake.

Not looking to good for CT RI or MA Cape Cod and the Islands. Besides the usual removing of everything to reduce wind-age is there anything else you can do to prepare on a mooring? I was told last year when Dan was coming up the coast that I'm on a 500lb mushroom that is buried 6'.

I always store my anchor in the anchor locker ever since Maine Sail's post a few years back. I am going Friday morning and will remove the anchor and anything below that can fly around.

I've never experienced a hurricane this close owning a boat. Where can I go to find out what kind of storm surge would be expected in Buzzards Bay? Is there such a place?

I am closely watching this one. I will probably head to the boat on Saturday to double line the boat and strip canvass. Ugh....I hate hurricane watch.

I rode the last one out aboard the boat and it wasn't bad. The wife won't let me ride this one out.

Delivering a boat from Cheapeake to NJ on Friday so keeping a close eye. Looks OK so far.

Soon after arriving in NJ I will be double-lining, de-sailing and securing everything. If it ends up a TS warning on NJ coast on Saturday/Sunday, will probably stay down. If it's a hurricane warning, I'm out. My wife wants to stay down there with me if I stay but I will not have the boy on the boat during that time. If I need to abandon ship and head over to the USCG station, I don't need to be worried about him! Our marina is protected pretty well so we weather TS pretty good. Not taking the risk during a hurricane though, even with a Cat 1!

Good luck to all of you in the Carolinas, states south and the islands. Godspeed and keep us updated if you can. I still haven't convinced my daughter that she needs to come home from Myrtle Beach early and not get caught in an evacuation. She said that a mutual friend of ours, who worls for MBPD, assured her that she will be fine. This is his first year there, he has never been involved with a hurricane, and he is a Marine so he fears little. She won't believe the guy who's been through hurricanes and bad storms though! Kids.....will they ever listen to their parents!!??

Nothing to do but sit tight here in Baltimore and hope we don't have a repeat of Isabelle. She stalled near the mouth of the Bay and acted as a plug. Very little wind reached our piece of the bay but the storm surge was near 10 feet in many areas on top of high tides.

Calm seas all fingers are crossed.

I was in the middle R. during Isabelle and she blew the water right out of the the river. Had the boat hanging on the dock lines for about 24 hours in about 2 ft of water. Very unplesent for the toe-rail.

Unfortuantely it doesn't appear likely in my lifetime. My 16 yr old daughter knows everything and my 14 yr old son knows that everything she knows is wrong.

That is pretty wierd. We were in Rock Creek off the Patapsco River and we had over 8+ feet of tides. Tied to the dock and the pilings and dock were under water for two days. We cruised through the streets in downtown Annapolis in a friends dinghy because of the high waters. The entire downtown area was totally flooded. Chuck
