Not difficult to learn to play, though it can take a lifetime to play them really well. Wish I still had mine - very inspiring at the crack of dawn and at sunset. Also good for keeping away stray dogs and dockmates.As for the dress code, all that wool can be a tad warm in 90* heat, but don't knock it til you try it!

You did a really outstanding job detailing how the iPod can be used for a music center onboard a boat, including answering questions and everything, and following up with solutions.As for me, I have an old 40G G3 that plays "The Shadow".... you know, the old radio programs. Makes for a good listen before lights out. There are a lot of good old radio programs available on CDs now.As for other music genre - I'd (kinda) like to thank Gregg for his feedback on bagpipes. Unfortunately, it was several years ago when I gave it a thought about playing one (one of the top bagpipe players is only a few miles from here in Seabeck WA). Since then I took up the accordion (yes, a 120 base squeeze box). No electricity required (although pickups are available). Haven't got up to walking the dock while playing it though.On my list of possibilities is an electronic keyboard since they're getting so good now, but one with weighted keys when the price comes down a bit more.I was really hoping for some feedback re a good battery source for my iPod though *cry

The battery link is appreciated and the price is significantly less than OEM. Oh, ... and I noticed a similar comparison with the boat babe replies too but didn't quite know, or if, I should comment, or how to phrase it... sometimes things are better left unsaid.Speaking of boat babes..... Did a search for something a few days ago and wound up at Motorboating magazine http://www.motorboating.com/motorboat/ and noticed they're really into boat babes - on their web site, in many of the pictures (most new boat articles feature one or more scantily-clad gals on their boats, even the How-To articles have a bikini-gal running the Mikita buffer polishing the gel coat or, for example, doing other work on the boat - and often the dirty jobs too! Sailboat magazines usually have guys dressed in coveralls, Nomex suits, and goggles, etc. Heck, they even have a swimsuit gallery!Just want to tell Gregg when I said "kinda", I meant that in the context that NOW he says they aren't that difficult to play! It's probably a little too late now to take up another instrument.

John - It's never too late! When I was in the pipe band at work, we had students of all ages (well, reasonably so anyway). It sounds like you may already know how to read music, and that's a good start. When learning (and later on for practicing), you use a practice chanter rather than a set of pipes. Kind of like a clarinet without keys - just holes you place your fingers over to make the notes. Tell you what - if you can find a chanter, I've got a bunch of music I could send you that's pretty easy to learn. It would definitely help if you had a nearby mentor.Back to the original subject - I have an iPod - 3rd generation, I think - the one withthe 4 buttons across the top. I use an iTrip FM transmitter that plugs into the top of the thing to broadcast to the stereo and it works great. Problem is, that iTrip does some serious draining to a battery that's already marginal, so it helps to use a power adapter for the cigarette lighter.Gregg
