Victrola also
Glenn -I had to laugh when I saw your post. Two summers ago, while sailing along the Michigan coast, we stopped in at Pentwater. While there, I was in an antique shop and found a full console upright Victrola. I've had an interest in them and the price was right, so I asked the Admiral. Her response? "If you can get it to fit, that's fine, but I really don't think it will make it through the companionway." Antique dealer hands me a tape measure - quick measure the console, run to the boat, quick measurements there, it's going to fit, but it will be tight. Looks like we'll have to store it in the v-berth. Hmm, where are we going to sleep (we're cruising with our 4 kids). Back to the dealer, "We'll take it!". He helps me wrap it in plastic to protect it, loads it in the back of his pickup, and then gives me a lift to the marina. A couple more ports in Michigan and then off across the lake back to the home port of Racine. We ran into some 4 to 6 foot waves, had great wind, water over the bow, and some nervous moments that I hadn't secured it well enough up front. But the folks on the dock got quite a kick when we got in, took it out, unwrapped it, cranked it up, and played scratchy 78's for them. T J
