Hi all! Apologies if I missed an "introductions" post.. I looked, but didn't see one anywhere.
I'm Greg, central NY on the Finger Lakes, and have a newly acquired O'Day 22 "Spirit"
We're working well on breaking things in and learning each other... but I'm new to trailer sailers... I grew up on bigger boats... so there are a few things I'm still a bit unclear on.
My boat came with a symmetrical spinnaker... but no topping lift, no downhaul, and no spinnaker pole. Do people just fly them like an asymmetrical on boats this size? Just pinning the tack down at the bow? Or is this just a case of "previous owner didn't know how to fly a kite?" Because I'm lost as to how you'd make this work.
Second... the water tank that sits under the forward end of the cockpit. Mine is gross and clearly never used, but there's some water in there. The plywood retainers are kinda punky, but it's obviously bigger than just the little bit I can see. If I remove the plywood on the starboard side in that locker, and empty the water, and disconnect the supply line, will I be able to just slide it out, or are there retainers in there somewhere I'm unaware of?
Last: What have people done for bilge pumps in their 22? That primary bilge is pretty small... do you just set one up while you're away and plumb it to the sink drain? Other?
Much thanks, and so glad to be aboard.
