Interior Stain?

Hi folks... Does anyone have any idea what stain Catalina used in the 80's on their interiors? I have an '87 cat 30 and the interior wood has a definite redish tint to it...I don't know if it's a cherry stain or what. I'm building a teak extension to my breaker panel and want it to match. The teak is expensive and I'd hate to have the new section look drastically different fromt he old. I'll probably stain it and then just use Cetol thereafter, but I'd like to get the color right. Any suggestions??? Thanks!! Jim

Catalina Interior Teak Finish

Jim The link is the best I can find. Many people have asked about this, but also many people have varnished or otherwise refinished down below. We just continue to use teak oil on a regular basis and it looks great. We don't like the shinier finish varnish gives, but many people do. My experience is that regular teak oil will do it. I've added pensil holders, a book rack and other teak trim, and the basic color of the teak with just oil matches perfectly, without any stain. Also, and this may be too obvious, Catalina's still in business, why not call them? Please let us know what you find out. Stu

Already did, and thanks

Stu... Thanks for the link. I sent an email late Friday to Catalina asking them about the interior stain color. I'll post their reply for others. I just thought someone here might have the answer faster....;) The project I'm working on isn't going to be finished until late next month, so I have time to get it right. Thanks again. Jim

Minwax Red Oak

Jim, I took a piece of teak to a local paint store, and the Minwax Red Oak stain applied and quickly wiped off matches the original color almost perfectly. Are you sure you want to use Cetol on the interior? It's designed for exterior teak, and will change the color (make it more orange). Why not a good polyurethane? Gloss or Satin, your choice.

Thanks!

Tom... Thanks for the stain color...I'll check it out. No, I won't use cetol if the stain color is right (never knew it was primarily for outside use!! ;) Id the project comes out right, I'll post a pic. Thanks again! Jim

Interior Stain / Color

Jim Tom is right, you just don't wanna use cetol down below. Emailing Catalina will get you nowhere - they're too busy (successfully) building boats and aren't just into the email thing. A fax "may" work. Call and ask for parts, get Robert Butler, a nice guy, son of Frank, and ask him, or anyone else, they're great people. Good luck with your projects, just waitin' for the flix! Lemon oil

We use lemon oil furniture polish in liquid form. This does the same as using teak oil and leaves a better fragrance behind than teak oil. You also don't have to worry about the combustable rags you create with teak oil. We apply 2 times/year and the bulkhead and all interior trim looks like new.
