Interesting Observation ... re: H30 (Cherubini)

I might need JCII's input on this one. As I look at various photos of the Hunter 30 from early 74 up through 79, I notice a strange phenomenon (sp?): Why do two boats that are both considered 1978 Hunter 30s, each have a different number of opening portlights? Ours has three forward of the fixed port (salon, hallway, V on starboard and salon, head and V on port). Then, I've seen photos of 1978 Hunter 30s with just two (2) opening portlights ... where did the third one come from? If some of the 30s only have two, where are they located? When did this (seemingly significant) modification take place? Why do lakes have to freeze in the winter? You can see BOTH versions of the same boat at the link below. Hopefully someone can answer this for me. Eric

Ours has 2

I've noticed the same thing. Our 78 has two opening ports and a large fixed port on each side. One opening port is in the salon, just behind the bulkhead, the second is in the head.

read the small print.

if you read the small print.... "Hunter reserves the right to change any features on their boats without previous notice." This is actually not a quote but a disclaimer that most every mfg puts in their brochures.

extra H30 portlight

My H30 1977 has no portlights forward in the V-bunk cabin; however, it is a simple modification to add an extra light on each side in line with the others. Many owners have made this change. It makes sense because otherwise it is quite dark forward. (My forward hatch has a Sunbrella cover against leaks) Henry

Thanks, Henry ....

Now that you mention this, I realize the V-berth port light is actually a *slightly* different style than the other two. I cannot image NOT having these in the V and should thank either of the former owners of our 30.

And here is an idea. . . .

that I really like. A port that can be left open when it is raining. See Related Link. And only $130. each! :) (http://www.newfoundmetals.com/port.htm)

Oh boy!

Ed: Oh boy, would that be interesting when someone forgets to close this port and we go sailing!!! I can see it now, beating into 4-6 ft chop on Lake E. That should lower the lake level. <g>

BY the way, which 33 did you look at while dealing with Sandy Hook? Don

The 33 in the lot ...

We looked at an older Hunter 33 .. I can't recall much more than that. It seemed like TOO much boat for us. I remember the interior layout but don't know the year or seller. We also checked out a beat up old Catalina.
