Make sure you run large enough wire back there. I have the 1000 but it's not the ST. Seems to me with the ST you can mount it on the port side but you better double check.

I didn't have the proper mount so I used a oar lock as a mount on the lax deck lid. Seems to me it's 18" forward from your rudder axis and 19" to the side unless you purchase ram extensions.

Mine is acting up now so I am sure it's not long for this world. No support for the discontinued models. It's the older dial compass.

All I can say is, when it works, it's a dream

Is it an installation party? Why the map? Do we have to bring snacks to share?
Seriously, for a second. Have you got the instructions? I have seen them installed on there 26 S&D boats in pictures on this site. Somewhere...
Funny thing. I picked up an older analog model last month. Mine came in the origional box with the foam but no instructions or part that mounts to the boat under the body of the it. Just a metal post. I suppose it fits in some type of hole in something that attaches to the boat. I haven't had time to look at it closely.
Could you post some pictures of your attachment thing? Maybe photos and notes of your installation.

I put mine on port so I could control the engine and a/p while driving.

and I put mine closer to the transom than recommended with no ill effects. (ymmv).

I will tell you, once you get it working, you'll learn to love it. ;)

pretty sure Sumner has the gps - ap working
(my simrad tp10 doesn't have that, and frankly don't really need it).

this is my setup on a D... ugly as it is... it works.

some brass pipe fittings w. the simrad cup expoxied to a fitting. covered by pvc.

-I also wanted the AP to be higher than the tiller, so when I get into the laz, it doens't go swimming. (note the bungy on the ap).

I bought a 5 pack of the sockets. You just drill a 1/2" hole and put this in and your autohelm post drops in. I can send you one.

There's been a lot of discussion about what side to install autohelms on, port or starboard. On my 26S, the PO installed a Raymarine ST1000 on the starboard side, and I like it there. It has since died and I replaced it with a Simrad TP10, using the same mount. He installed the metal mounting cup directly into the top of the coaming, backed with a block of wood, nice and strong, and flush when not in use. A 5 inch(I think) push rod extension has been added.

So, while in use it extends across the top of the laz, but no problem. If I want to open the laz, I simply lift the TP10 off the tiller pin, and swing it out of the way.

I don't have a good picture, but here you can see where the mounting cup is installed.

I have 2 grp 27 deep cycles and don't use my starter. (sw broke).

but it does use some amps, and acts up if you don't have enough ...
I think you want a deep cycle for the AP.

(-on port I can get my fenders out of the laz, while the AP is still connected . sail or engine.) ;)

Doesn't the tiller itself get in the way opening the laz. On mine I have to move the tiller to port, or lift it up so the laz hatch can open. So have to disconnect the autohelm anyway.

A flush mounting cup can be installed the same way on the port side. No need to lift it high. There's also a drop down tiller pin connector available, that's mounted on the bottom of the tiller, so you can make a lower connection if need be.

fwiw,
if I'm sailing on port tack, the tiller is over the laz. I just lift up the lid, (up to ~2') and the AP continues to work. -however the angle of the tiller is high so more stress is on the tiller. (2' is about where the backstay hits the lid... but its enough to get my fenders out).

if I'm on stb tack its not an issue at all.
I think most AP are setup by default to work on stb, so I had to reprogram mine for port.

anyway, I like my setup. glad you like yours.

(note: on a D, the tiller appears to be higher off the deck, and I added a skate wheel to lift it further over the laz vent the PO installed.)

I would like to add a wheel and a roller plate to my tiller. I just need to figure out how to do it

I have mine on the stbd side. It seemed like the easiest and cleanest way.
If you need to get in the laz, just lift up the lid and tiller together and it works.
BTW, it was the best add on I have done on the boat. I single hand a lot and the AP just makes things a lot easier.

Thank you think I will go your way! Do you know the distance your mounting cup is from end of coming?
Thanks

Ours is mounted on the laz lid - can just lift it up with the lid to get inside. Simple and works great.
