Thank you think I will go your way! Do you know the distance your mounting cup is from end of coming?
Thanks
Dennis
I just measured it. The mounting cup is 17-3/4" from the aft end, where my stern light is mounted.

By the way, I installed a Tiller Riser, which lifts the tiller off the laz. I didn't like the way it dragged across the top of the laz. Got it from Rudder Craft. I don't see them on their web site anymore, don't know if they're still available, but if you like that idea, it should be easy to fabricate something similar. Legs fit under the tiller more easily with the added height.

The PO installed stainless steel rub strakes, across the front edge of the laz, so the tiller would slide on those instead of the fiberglass top of the laz. I added another one in front of the motor well, even though they're not needed for that purpose anymore, they look pretty good. You can see the one on the laz in the pic above.

Thank you this really helps, I don't know how far you are from your bolt but could you also measure the distance from the tiller bolt forward to the tiller pin? Also are you paired with a gps?
Thanks for all the help! Going to do this tues it's a 105f now.

Sorry, I should have provided that measurement before. On my boat it's also 17-3/4" from the center of the rudder shaft/tube, to the pin. The installation manual for the TP10 says 18". Basically, the AH is mounted straight across from the coaming to the tiller.

I also measured the extension, it's only 4". With that, it doesn't provide as much travel while turning starboard (tiller moved to port) as it does in the other direction. I've never noticed any problem as is, but I may try a longer extension, not sure what lengths they come in.

My Simrad TP10 AH is not paired with my GPS, it's not capable. I would have had to spend more $$$ to get that capability. I guess that's the difference between the terms, Auto-Helm and Auto-Pilot. It works for me though, it holds a heading nicely, and it has an auto tack feature that works well too. It's easy to make small corrections with the push of a button. Well worth the investment.

My only problem is battery power consumption. I'd really like to have an adequate solar panel that can provide enough power to keep going all day. Just another project that will take more $$$. :D But that's half the fun!

Thanks you have been very helpful, my gps (low seance) is comparable, bought the 083 plug, I have a solar panel which may help with amps. One of my projects also is to find a good way to stern mount a magma grill, I have no stern rail and the mount that came with it is to flimsy? Any ideas?

I put mine on port so I could control the engine and a/p while driving.

and I put mine closer to the transom than recommended with no ill effects. (ymmv).

I will tell you, once you get it working, you'll learn to love it. ;)
I could not help notice your magma grill mount looking for cheap sturdy way to attach it over stern, any suggestions?
Thanks
Dennis

if I had to do it again, I'd get the force 10 rectangular grill.
the round one has a hotspot. and is difficult to stow.

but the clean up of the round magma is hard to beat...
